25 Halloween Costumes w/Your LBD

The easiest way to create a last-minute or inexpensive Halloween costume is to start with things you already have. I do it every year, because I get so frustrated with how expensive yet poorly-made most Halloween costumes are. I'd rather use what is already in my closet, or spend a little extra on accessories or a new dress that I can wear anytime of the year. A little black dress is the easiest way to use what you have to create a Halloween costume with a few inexpensive accessories and other accessories you probably already have in your closet.Pictured Above: Halloween Black Mesh Dress

1. Black Cat - This is the easiest way to use your little black dress on Halloween. I know it's pretty much the most generic costume in history, but for good reason - it's just so easy and affordable. It's the perfect last-minute costume for women, because you could really use any black outfit even if you don't have a little black dress. Pair it with your black flats or heels and a…

3 Steps to Grow Your Readership!

Today's guest blogger is  Louisa from Everything Is Edible. I'm excited to share her post with you. She has written essential steps on how you should be using your content and writing style to grow your readership. Enjoy, and don't forget to stop by her blog and show her some love!

Three Tips to Finding Your Style and Growing Your Readership
by Louisa

I don't do humour. A lot of bloggers gain popularity because they are genuinely funny people and they can translate it well into written form. I'm not one of those people. I've tried and tried but even I don't find myself funny online. So now I've stopped trying.

Lesson one: Your blog is not going to grow by trying to be something or someone that your are not. The posts that get the best return in the form of comments, stumbles and sharing are the ones where I talk about the balancing act of life with a young family - how I navigate faith, dreams and life with raising small children. I both enjoy writing about these things and am encouraged when they reassure or inspire other Mums; so this is where I put my energy.

Lesson Two: Why do you blog? What do you most enjoy writing about? What posts get the most traffic or comments? Hopefully there is an overlap. Working this out will help keep you focused. My purpose in blogging is to deconstruct the myth of perfect motherhood, to encourage other Mums that they aren't alone, and to walk alongside Mums who are trying to work out what their purpose in life is now that they are mothers but who feel guilty for even wondering about that. When I start to stray from this my readers notice, when I stick to it they thank me. Work out what your goal is, if you don't already know, and then write more of these posts - these are "high value" posts.

Lesson Three: Find a way to highlight and promote your "high value" posts so that they are easy to find. When you visit my blog you'll see some clear headers directing you towards the four areas people enjoy the most on my blog - Parenting 101, Real Motherhood, Photography and Discussion Point. As these are the areas of greatest interest to my readers I want to make them front and center on my blog.

A word about posts you enjoy writing but get little return from. Keep writing these, you may get better at them. Either way, recognise that they are "low value" and post them on slow days or make sure a "high value" posts goes up soon after. Your blog is your space first and foremost so you need to write about the things that are of interest to you. For example, my blog is a diary of my kids life and so I write updates about their development. These are "low value" posts as most people don't care on which day of the week my kid rolled over for the first time, but recording these milestones is an important thing for me and so I write about them, but in such away that doesn't take away interest from the rest of my blog.
If you aren't sure what your best posts are or what style you are best suited to - ask someone. Leave a comment on this post and we can visit and give you some thoughts. Join a community of bloggers and see what they respond the most to on your site. Bloggers, in general, are a friendly bunch who want to encourage others so be brave and let's help each other out.
A word to the wise, go carefully if you want to try sarcastic humour. It is very hard to pull off without seeming bitter.
Most of all, Happy Blogging!
