25 Halloween Costumes w/Your LBD

The easiest way to create a last-minute or inexpensive Halloween costume is to start with things you already have. I do it every year, because I get so frustrated with how expensive yet poorly-made most Halloween costumes are. I'd rather use what is already in my closet, or spend a little extra on accessories or a new dress that I can wear anytime of the year. A little black dress is the easiest way to use what you have to create a Halloween costume with a few inexpensive accessories and other accessories you probably already have in your closet.Pictured Above: Halloween Black Mesh Dress

1. Black Cat - This is the easiest way to use your little black dress on Halloween. I know it's pretty much the most generic costume in history, but for good reason - it's just so easy and affordable. It's the perfect last-minute costume for women, because you could really use any black outfit even if you don't have a little black dress. Pair it with your black flats or heels and a…

Interview with the Maker of GingerChi

Ginger Chi is another Etsy shop I sought out and all but begged to let me feature in our Holiday Gift Guide. I love using natural and organic products (especially for my face), and I have an obsession with the health benefits of ginger root. This shop was made for me!

Anna, the genius behind GingerChi has graciously agreed to do an interview in addition to providing samples for review. Let's explore the world of GingerChi:

1. How did you get started selling handmade?
According to Asian philosophy, Chi is the universal life force present in all living things.
After the birth of my daughter, 17 years ago, I was advised by my mother to buy loads of ginger. I sliced the ginger and boiled it in huge pots of water. I used the ginger water for bathing and washing my hair. I also cooked ginger to include in meals and to make soups, herbal tonics and teas.

The purpose of all this was to revive the Chi that had been depleted from giving birth. The Chinese believe when chi is weak, the body is susceptible to the external forces that cause sickness and especially later on in life, arthritis. As a 41 year old woman who’d just given birth I was thrilled with the results I got from using ginger so extensively. My body and energy were revived in no time.

Because of this experience the benefits of ginger have always intrigued me. I thought if it works so well for women after giving birth, then for sure, it would work for everyday loss of Chi. Everyone deals with small daily stressors that drain energy and exhaust the spirit. What if there was a simple way to replenish Chi throughout the day? Personal care products seemed like the obvious solution. Unfortunately, most of the products on the market were mainly perfumed with ginger and did not have the beneficial properties of fresh ginger that I wanted. GingerChi was born when I decided to make my own.

2. What sets your product apart from your competitors?
Well for starters as I mentioned before, Ginger isn’t often used for its therapeutic qualities in products. You will find lots of products that use Ginger fragrance but very little devoted to Ginger as a healing herb in its own right. There are also many companies that claim to have essential oils in their products. Some do to a degree but very often they also contain perfumes, additives, and a whole list of preservatives. I’ve always preferred natural ingredients and natural fragrance. GingerChi products are all natural, and wherever possible, organic. The main ingredient is fresh ginger essential oil plus a select pick of other essential oils known for their therapeutic qualities as well as skin benefits.

GingerChi works on two levels – the properties of ginger enhance chi, while other essential oils help support healthy skin and well-being. When one’s Chi is vital, one is truly beautiful. That’s why our packaging says “for beauty from within”.

3. What inspires your creations?
Personal experience. I essentially make products for myself. I am now nearing 60. Some say I look much younger but I know I feel better than I did at 28.

4. What advice would you give to someone starting out on Etsy?
I’m just starting out myself on Etsy but I have found the community to be very embracing of ‘newbies’. There is great sense of community with so much advice and encouragement from fellow ‘Etysians’. So connect, connect and keep at it.

5. Where do you see your business in 10 years?
I enjoy formulating and coming up with new ideas and products that can benefit every woman. In 10 years I hope to be still passionate about what I do.

I would like GingerChi to be a successful international company that not only benefits the individual but the community at large. I believe companies have the responsibility of giving back. GingerChi’s policy from day one has been to donate a percentage of every purchase to causes that benefit women and the environment.
So far we’ve been able to donate to Doctors Without Borders and Women for Women International.
