Easy DIY Halloween Party Favors

There are so many cute Halloween party favor ideas floating about the web, like the witch's broom goodie bags for example, though they do require some DIY experience. These tin-tie bakery bags are the perfect size for a Halloween goodie bag, and they require no crafting skills. I love howthe favor bags I made them with are cute enough for kids but still nice enough for the grown-ups as well. All you need are the bakery bags, ribbon, and 3D Halloween stickers from the craft store. You can use the smaller bag pictured above or a larger bakery bag with a window display. I like to fill the larger ones with treats to give out as holiday presents to neighbors and teachers.

Simply fill the bags with a Halloween treat (homemade or store-bought), close them up and tie them off with ribbon, then affix a sticker to each bag. These are food-grade bags, so they're perfect to fill with homemade fall treats like popcorn, kettle corn, or Halloween chocolates. Try my DIY gourmet popcorn

2013 Home Decor Trend: Brass Accents

I've talked a lot about the 2013 home decor trend of emerald green, but there is another home accessory trend I've been loving for a long time - brass. It's kind of like gold's ugly stepsister, right? It was so popular in the 1970s and into the early 80s but has had a bad rep since. Personally I've always loved it. Any kind of metallic finish adds glamor to a space if you pick the right pieces. Best of all, brass offers the glamorous look of gold but is much more affordable! Brass is a major trend in home decor accessories for 2013, so you'll be able to find brass accessories at most stores like Pier 1, Target, West Elm, Bed Bath & Beyond, and of course you can find brass decor online. Another reason why I've always loved decorating with brass home accessories is that because they were in such high demand a few decades ago, now they're in endless supply at vintage shops and thrift stores, making the second-hand brass accessories even more affordable.

Brass home accessories look great in several different decor styles. Like I said above, you can use touches of brass to create a glamorous look. Stick with high=polished brass or decorative items, like the photo frame and brass box pictured above or a gold-toned candelabra or wall sconce. If you can afford it, the ultimate in glamor is a brass chandelier. For a budget option, try this beautiful brass candelier.

To incorporate brass details into more modern home decor, try something with high shine and clean lines, or an accessory made with hammered metal, like the hammered votive holder in the first pic. For brass accents in a more masculine room, like a study, I absolutely love weathered brass accessories like this brass table lamp and old-world brass wall clock.
