KCL 2018 Beauty Awards

Welcome to the latest beauty edit and the very first beauty awards here on the blog! I’ve tried so many wonderful beauty products this year and wanted to let you guys know which were my top must-have products of the year. I’ve picked from new and small businesses only, as I love to work with indie brands. And like most of the beauty brands I review; most of these are organic, natural, and cruelty-free.

These are the items that long after the required testing and promotion period, I find myself still using and preferring above any others. The're the products which despite a never ending stream of free PR samples, I would still spend my own money (and in some cases have) in order to get more of. And whether affordable or more costly, these are the beauty products that I truly think are worth the price. So if you’re thinking about adding more beauty or selfcare products into your 2019 routine, I highly recommend each of these brands.

Pantone's 2013 Color of the Year Emerald in Home Decor

Pantone's 2013 official color of the year for 2013 is emerald green! Thank God! Not that I didn't develop an appreciation for 2012's tangerine tango, though that relationship was equivalent to Stockholm's syndrome; I grew to love tangerine simply because I couldn't get away from it. While I'll always gravitate towards blue home decor above all other shades, green has always been a close favorite both in fashion and home decor. Like all the Pantone picks over the years, you can bet that emerald green will play a huge role in design and fashion this year. No doubt I'll get busy creating style and shopping guides for my lovely readers.

How to Incorporate Emerald Green Into Home Decor:

*Take baby steps with something disposable like an emerald green candle or reed diffuser.

*Bring in emerald green with natural elements. Next time you need fresh flowers for your home, opt for greenery or a green leafy plant.

*Upcycle green wine bottles by using them to hold taper candles or flowers or simply clustering the bottles on a display shelf.

*Use other shades of green. For example if you currently have muted tones in your decor, use a muted shade of green, like sage green.

*Swap out silver accents for shades of gold. Gold home accessories match perfectly with emerald green.

*If you're ready to incorporate emerald green in a major way, start with a large inspiration piece like an emerald-green area rug or emerald-green patterned curtains.

*Add emerald green to your kitchen and/or dining area with inexpensive green dishes and serving bowls.

*Put a touch of emerald green in your bathroom with glass apothecary jars.

*To incorporate emerald green into your current color scheme, add pieces that contain both green and your main color. For example, if you currently decorate with blue, find decorative accessories that are a mix of blue and emerald green.

*Update your clear hurricane vases or votive trays with emerald green gem accents.

*Decorate a room with a motif, like peacocks, so you can easily bring in other rich colors like purple and blue.

*Use it in a pattern as opposed to a solid-green item so you can easily mix it in with a neutral color palette.

*If you have neutral-colored sofas, try some inexpensive throw pillows and blankets in varying shades of green. Use an emerald square pillow sham  over an existing throw pillow so you can easily swap it out if you change your mind.

*Go bold and paint your walls in emerald green. Experiment with an accent wall to make sure you like it.
