Red Carpet Fashion: 2013 Golden Globe Awards

The red carpet fashion at the 2013 Golden Globes was surprising in a few ways and right on-trend in other ways. Celebrities wore classic, glamorous designs by Givenchy, Dior, Tom Ford, Carolina Herrera, and more. The colors or the gowns were a bit of a surprise. I was expecting some sheer black gowns, like the one seen on Rachel Weisz, as well as the black and white trend on Julianne Moore. What I hadn't expected was for solid black to be so prevalent. In attempts to stand out from the crowd, so many stars wore black assuming that all the other stars would wear bright colors, that most of the stars ended up wearing black.

The bright color that did make it's way onto the Golden Globes red carpet was red. Claire Danes, winner for her work in Homeland, wore a simple red dress that showed off how in shape she is even after having her baby just a month ago. Jennifer Lawrence, also a Golden Globe winner for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, was one of the best dressed in a coral-red Dior haute couture strapless gown. Her messy, twisted up do was one of my favorite hairstyles of the night. A hair tutorial is on the way, as well as a Downton-inspired pin curl tutorial based on Amy Adams' Golden Globes hair do.

Another color many leading ladies wore to the Globes was white, as well as various blush tones. One of my favorites was Amanda Seyfried's delicate gown. That picture doesn't quite do it justice; her gown was layered with beautiful sheer lace. Had she worn her hair up, it would've revealed more of the beautiful details on the bodice. Anne Hathaway, one of the top nominees of the night, should have chosen a more show-stopping look. Her white Chanel gown was pretty none-the-less, but given her recent red carpet choices, I was expecting something bigger and better.
I predicted some stars would arrive at the Golden Globes in crazy prints, but I thought I would like them. Halley Berry's Versace cut-out gown and Lucy Liu's floral print ball gown were among my least favorite. I really wanted to like Liu's gown, but I think it was just all wrong on her. Perhaps it might have worked on someone taller and more substantial, like Anne Hathaway. Another Golden Globes gown among my least favorites was Jessica Chastain's blue Calvin Klein dress. I love Jessica Chastain, and I'm dying to see Zero Dark Thirty, but I thought her hair made her face look strange, and the dress made her otherwise gorgeous body look weird in all the wrong places.
