DIY Mermaid Nails

I've been promising you guys a new makeup tutorial, and here it is - a beautiful DIY mermaid mani! It's so perfect for Summer, and I promise you, it's quite easy to do. I was so inspired by the samples I recently received from Nail Social Nail Brand. I have to say, when I first saw the colors, I knew they were a little bit out of my typical comfort zone. Honestly, I haven't worn sparkly blue nail polish since college, which was quite a while ago for me. For years I've stuck with pinks, reds, and purples; with the most adventurous of my manis being hot pink (and only when hot pink was very on-trend). Summer Beauty Trend: Top Nail Polish Colors for Summer 2013

Beauty products, much like clothing, go through different trends with each season. Nail polish is a big beauty product for Summer, as we display our tootsies in Summer sandals. I've always been a fan of classic red and the dark gothic reds and purples, but if I had to lighten things up for summer, I could go for some of these 2013 nail colors.

Actually I always wish I could wear the pastel colors, but with my dark olive complexion, I'm stuck with the darker shades. Though I could totally go for the "Girls Are Out" shade by Essie for summer 2013 (pictured right), or Dior's Summer '13 Mermaids collection and their "Bird of Paradise" nail duo in shimmering blue.  You can find more pastels in cool shades in the Essie 2013 Resort collection.

Another top nail trend this summer has popped up recently is white. I was slow to like this trend until I heard it referred to as the modern French manicure. To make it wearable, go for a white nail polish with either a beige tint or a pearly finish, like the Essie Pearly White.
