Whether you're attending a summer wedding or a roof top garden party this summer, you'll need a nice cocktail dress. Look for one that's good quality and classic in design so you can get a few good years out of it. A high quality semi-dressy summer dress is going to cost at least a few hundred dollars. All of the summer cocktail dresses featured here are on sale for under $200 and under $100. Consider it an investment piece. If you have to wear dresses to work, find a summer cocktail dress that can double as office attire with a blazer added on. A floral dress like the second one above is casual enough, you could wear it to a weekend brunch if you swap out the heels for flat sandals.

The hi-low and asymmetrical dresses are ideal for a semi-formal outdoor summer party. The golden bustier dress is best for an indoor evening summer party. A hi-low dress is perfect for an outdoor sumer party, because it looks great with wedges. You may not want to wear flats to an outdoor wedding, but heels aren't easy to walk in on the grass. A wedge is just right.

Fit and flare dresses are super trendy for summer 2013. A classic fit and flare like the two pictured above are perfect for attending a summer wedding. Wear the strapless peplum dress for cocktails in the city. I love the yellow strapless dress for it's versatility. You could wear it to a summer wedding or on a summer date. If you dress it up with jewelry, it could even work as a beautiful bridesmaid dress for a yellow summer wedding.

  1. I wonder who Jessica Simpson is paying to design dresses for her name...

    1. Lol. Well, so many designers work that way now. They use a licensing agent to hook them up with a manufacturer and distributors. Not many designers actually know how to sew these days...which gives me hope that I can have a line one day! I can't sew worth shit.

  2. I'm trying to remember the last time I wore a dress. I think it was 1985....
