Gift Guide for the Dog Lover

I'm so excited to bring you guys today's holiday gift guide. This one is for all of the #dogmoms out there (and #dogdads). My husband and I have a German Shepherd named Emma (who is currently in a time out for pooping inside...again), but just like our other kids, we still love her. We'd also really love it if she'd quit going potty inside, but that is beside the point. The point is there is no shame in spoiling your sweet fur baby, especially during the holidays!! And while some of these gifts are items for your dog, some are great gift ideas for the dog lover in your life too.

The Dogist 2018 Wall Calendar by Elias Weiss Friedman author of The Dogist, for example, is the perfect Christmas gift for someone who loves dogs.

These super cute Christmas Plaid Dog Collars by Mr. Bow Tie Boutique would be the perfect holiday gift for doggies and dog owners alike! Whether you have family holiday photos coming up, or you simply want your furry friend to look festive for those…

5 Easy Modern Updates for Your Fall Wardrobe

There are several stand-out trends in fashion for fall/ winter 2013-14. I love how some of the biggest runways and style blogger trends are classics that will never really go out of style, like the pointy-toe pump. It's a great investment if you want to update your style this fall. And you can never go wrong with a neutral blazer or a metallic statement necklace.

1. Jersey Blazer - If I could buy 20 different blazers I totally would, but ever since I invested in a black jersey blazer, I haven't needed any other jackets for fall. It can go over dresses, tanks, tees, or blouses; more importantly it can be worn with a casual or dressy look. If you get one new wardrobe staple for fall, I highly suggest a black jersey blazer. Start with a simple single-button blazer with little or no embellishments so you can wear it with just about anything in your closet.

2. Leather Mini or Pencil Skirt - Leather has been such a huge style trend this year. As fall approaches, I'm noticing a change in the trend. Style bloggers and store displays are trading in their fit-and-flare leather skirts for leather minis and leather pencil skirts. Just keep in mind a fitted leather skirt is already sexy enough. Steer clear of anything shiny or too embellished - keep it simple. I love how this style blogger dressed hers down with a sporty top and sneakers. Of course a leather pencil skirt is more suited for the office, while a mini is fun for going out.

3. Sparkly Statement Necklace - Fall and Winter is a time for sweaters and blazers. Nothing dresses up a sweater or a plain tee with blazer like a shiny statement necklace. It's also a great way to update a simple sheath dress to make it party worthy. A simple work dress layered with a dazzling necklace and paired with pretty pumps can instantly turn it into a chic cocktail dress. Bauble Bar (featured below) is a wonderful site to shop for super glam fashion jewelry that's actually affordable.

Another place I like to shop for affordable statement necklaces is Charlotte Russe. I know it's a teenie bopper shop, but they have the best fashion jewelry for $5 to $15 dollars. It isn't always the best quality, but for $5, it's a great place to find a special piece for a one-time occasion. Check out what they have in stores, as they have a much better selection of jewelry in stores than online.  Pictured above: My fave's from Bauble Bar

4. Pointy Toe Pumps - Flats are a huge shoe trend for women this fall, as are boots as usual. However in the way of high heels, classic pointy-toe pumps are a major shoe trend for fall 2013. Get a pair in a neutral color like white or black, and you can wear them with anything from office attire to distressed jeans, which brings us to the last trend.

5. Distressed Boyfriend Jeans - One of the biggest new trends for fall 2013, especially amongst bloggers and street-style enthusiasts are the boyfriend jeans. You can certainly wear them with flats and booties, though the way I'm seeing them styled the most (and I love it) is with pointy-toe pumps and a blazer or sweater. I love how this style blogger shows how to take boyfriend jeans from summer to fall.

If you were to pick just one item from this list to update your wardrobe, I'd go with the statement necklace. You can get a beautiful piece for under $20 that can instantly update a sweater, tee, or dress this fall.
