Each year, much like with fashion trends, hair and makeup trends take their cues from the runway shows. Though not all of the beauty trends on the runway translate to real life. The fall shows at New York Fashion Week earlier this year included a few trends that may not go mainstream, like navy-colored nails and textured lips. The
purple hair at Givenchy is definitely out. However designers; like Michel Kors, Oscar de la Renta, and Vera Wang sported classic fall beauty looks including
wine lips and smoky eyes.
The Top Five Most Wearable Beauty Trends for Fall 2013
1. Cat-Eye Makeup Trend - The biggest makeup trend from the fall runway shows has to be the
exaggerated cat-eye liner. Countless designers used the look, and the beauty trend has rapidly spread to celebrities, editorials, and the
best cat-eye tutorials all over the web. If you try one new makeup look this fall, go for the cat eye.
Essential Tools: To achieve the perfect winged cat-eye liner, you really need black liquid liner with a pointed tip. The
Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in black is said to be among the best for creating the look.
2. The Braid - For the most part, hair on the fall 2013 runways was casual with low ponytails and undone
tousled waves. Though it's by no means trendy, the braid is the most celebrated hairdo on Youtube and
Pinterest. There are so many unique versions of the braid, it's fun to experiment. And for ladies, it's a fun look that makes us feel young again. Doesn't it remind you of slumber parties spent braiding each other's hair? Though Valentino sported
simple braids on the runway, you can mix it up this fall with a braided updo. I love this braid tutorial by Kate of

messy bun with a braided wrap is actually a lot easier than it looks, and it is cool enough for daytime but also nice enough for a special occasion.

3. Oxblood Nails - I know you may be thinking, isn't oxblood a trendy word for red? But this deep hue seen
in shows by
Dannijo, Cynthia Rowley, and Naheem Kahn is a dark rich shade or red with a brownish purple undertone. Other nail trends from the fall runways include navy, green, black, and gold; though I have to say the dark red nails are my favorite. While there aren't a ton of specifically-labeled "oxblood" nail colors on the market, look for a dark red shade with a hint of brown or purple. You can also create your own by blending your classic red with brown and purple. A few nail polish brands like
RGB and Sally Hanson do have their own
oxblood nail polishes available. Here is a list of 10 other
red-hued polishes that closely mimic the oxblood trend.
4. Plum Smokey Eye - A smokey is always trendy for fall and winter, though on the runways for 2013, many designers showed a plum-shaded version of the beauty trend. Beauty brands like Maybelline and
Clinique helped designers create smokey eyes with shades of purple with their new fall 2013 makeup collections. Recreate the look with the

5. Wine-Red Lips - Classic red lips also dominated the fall runways, along with nude lips, though the color trend most associated with the return of the holidays and crisp chilly weather was the
wine-red lipstick seen at Vera Wang, Fendi, and many more shows.

That one girl looks like she has a black eye!
ReplyDeleteMost of the makeup is way too dark for my tastes, but I love the braid!
Well, those are the looks straight off the runway, so of course they're much bolder than one would wear it in real life...well, hopefully!
DeleteThey actually call it wine lips?
