Crafting with Kids: An Easy Fall Pine Cone Craft

This is such an easy fall craft for kids, even toddler can do it. I love it, because it takes very few supplies, and there is no glittery, glue, and/ or paint mess to clean up. It's so hard being a crafting mom with OCD! One of my daughters favorite things to do each fall is go on a "leaf hunt". As soon as the leaves begin to fall, we head out with baskets in hand and collect pine cones, leaves, and twigs to use for fall and holiday crafts. Last year we made pine cone Christmas ornaments. This year I wanted to use them to add some autumn decor to our home. I've seen yarn-wrapped pine cones used in fall decor and knew it would be the perfect DIY kid's craft my girls could make with their big loot of pine cones. Where I live in Maryland, they're extremely prevalent, but if you can't easily get them in your area, simply pick some up at the craft store - some gloriously cinnamon - scented ones. I've see yarn-wrapped pine cones with bright turquoise yarn for a modern touch. I love the look, though we went with a multi-colored fall yarn for this craft project.

You really don't need special instructions for this craft. Simply wrap the yarn around each pine cone until it's evenly covered. Arrange and display them in a decorative bowl or on a platter. We placed ours on a red charger on our entryway table.
