How to Host A Downton Abbey Style Brunch

http://www.krisztinaclifton.com/2014/01/entertaining-guide-how-to-host-downton.html

Vintage-themed parties are still very much on trend. From Gatsby-themed weddings, to Downton Abbey Dinner parties, people continue to celebrate the 1920s vintage vibe. The era is popular with good reason - it's an opportunity for party-goers to dress up and be fancy for an evening. Downton Abbey lovers can celebrate the time period by hosting a themed dinner, a Downton Abbey viewing party, or an elegant brunch. A Downton-themed brunch is also a great idea for a bridal shower. Here are three key elements for the perfect Downton Abbey brunch. Pictured: Amalfi Decor 'Sophia Collection' Antique Metal Cake Dessert Stand with Crystal Beads and Dangles

1. Dress the Part. For a Downton dinner, you'll need a long dress; but for a brunch, you can wear a knee-length dress. Go for white lace or a pastel with some velvet. For the accessories, anything with pearl or sparkle is perfect. I love the Downton Abbey jewelry collection. It has so many beautiful and affordable Edwardian-era inspired pieces. The dressy sandals pictured above are a nice modern twist on the 1920s heel trend. They'd actually be perfect for a glam-vintage wedding. Embellished head bands are very reminiscent of the time. The look has become so trendy that you can get them just about anywhere on any budget. The one pictured above is available at Target. If you're on a serious budget, simply focus on the key elements - delicate fabrics, pearls, and sparkle.

2. Set the Table. From crisp white linens to the perfect place setting, the table is your canvas for an elegant Downton-themed tea. Beautiful floral arrangements and candelabras are essential. Use tiered dessert stands to beautifully display scones and tea cakes. Here is a guide to a proper brunch place setting:

3. Serve Up Downton-Themed Eats. There are entire websites, and the cook book pictured above, dedicated entirely to Downton Abbey foods; but for a Downton brunch, keep it simple and think of English-style brunch or "high tea" menu items. Serve up several sweet things, like scones and a lovely cake. Pair them with at least one savory item, like cheese tartelettes. For the scones, offer some gourmet jam and clotted cream. Creme fresh is fine if you can't get your hands on clotted cream. Of course don't forget the most important thing of all - the tea! Have a nice array of accompaniments including sugar, cream, and lemon wedges.
