KCL Friday Finds

Happy weekend!! We are still busy over here with getting settled in. I know Ken and I will be utterly happy when we don't have to do anything extra to do...just a normal day-to-day routine plus our dates on the weekends. We will at least be on more of a schedule this coming week, as our kiddos start at their new school! And I've managed to get on a bit of a schedule with work, with just a few extra things on my to-do. I hope you all have a good weekend and enjoy some of my favorite links from the week. Grab a cup of coffee and sit back and relax. Image via Chevrons & Eclairs.

Last Minute Entertaining Ideas for the Fourth

For the main dish, grilling is a must on the Fourth of July. If you're throwing together a last-minute barbecue, you can't go wrong with hot dogs and hamburgers. With little to no prep work and fairly quick cooking time, you'll have everyone fed in a snap. Add on simple summer sides like a garden salad, potato salad, or baked beans. If you're really in a hurry, you can pick all of these sides up at your grocery store deli. Give your barbecue buffet an instant patriotic touch with some dollar store American flags and a red checked table cloth.

Something as simple as french fries get a chic makeover when served in individual glasses with dipping sauce. For an outdoor barbecue, I also like the idea of using cafeteria-style food baskets.

You don't have to spend hours making an intricate flag-themed cake. With simple red, white, and blue frosted cupcakes; you can make a flag cupcake cake even at the last minute. Party City created the stars using a star cookie cutter and white rolled fondant. Click here to see the rest of the supplies needed to create this cupcake flag cake.

Another simple dessert for a summer barbecue is s'mores.  Arrange the ingredients in serving dishes to create a S'mores Bar like the one pictured above.

I hope you all have a safe and happy Fourth!

  1. Excellent tips, Krisztina! Somehow barbecue seems just right for the day.

Second time today I've seen mention of s'mores. Can't believe I've never tried them.
