Q&A: Thanksgiving 911

Every Thanksgiving hostess has his or her moments of anxiety. Hell, I've been making holiday dinners and hosting dinner parties for a decade, and I still get a little nervous when it come to roasting the perfect turkey. That combined with kids, houseguests, and having to make an endless supply of side dishes all timed in perfect harmony...it's a lot for one person. Hopefully by the time you've read this post, I will have answered any of your looming questions, but if there is still anything you are concerned about, please leave a comment at the end of the post, and I'll be sure to answer. 1. What if I overcook the turkey, and the breast meat is dry? Slice it thin and soak it in warm chicken or turkey stock.
2. How do I get the skin beautiful golden brown? Lots of butter! Separate the skin and push butter directly over the meat then spread more butter over the outside of the skin. Also cover just the breast of th…

My Favorite Beauty Products for Summer Travel

I recently went through an airport security line, and despite my best efforts, had to have my cosmetic bags independently screened. Though I did manage to fit every bath and beauty product in my carry-on purse. There are several beauty products I never travel without in addition to some new ones I've been excited to try this summer. Most of them are for the sake of saving space, while others like my new e.l.f. travel makeup kit (pictured top left) are for special events in which I need a lot of makeup options in a small case.

For keeping my skin healthy on the go, I couldn't do without my exfoliating cleansing brush. I typically have to use a medicated facial scrub to ward off breakouts, but the Clarisonic is great for cleansing no matter which cleanser I happen to have on hand while traveling. It's also great for exfoliating, so if I need to skip my fancy retinol cream for a week, it's no big deal. At home I typically don't use makeup remover; I like to use my gentle soap, but when traveling (especially in heat and humidity), I love to have disposable makeup remover cloths on hand. My motto when traveling, and in life really, is you never know!

As far as makeup goes while traveling, I always take a bronzer compact. Before I go on vacation, I have visions of leisurely applying makeup in front of my hotel mirror after a luxurious bath, but in reality I'm usually thinking ah screw it! I just want to swipe on some color and get out the door to have some fun. With bronzer, I just swipe some onto a blush brush and apply it to my cheeks and eyelids in a matter of seconds.
