KCL Friday Finds

Happy weekend, guys!! I've got one beautiful small biz to share with you today, and then I'm doing things a bit differently for today's Friday Finds. I'm getting a bit overwhelmed with complimentary goodies this week, and I wanted to take this time to share my favorites with you. I'll be doing an unboxing video featuring the sample items, to post next week! But first, I did want to share one gorgeous shop with you guys. Check it all out below! Pictured above are some handwoven home goods by Melody Fulone. Her shop is full of unique and beautifully woven wall hangings, pillows, many other home accessories; and even a bit of fiber art jewelry. I really love the neutral colors and the modern designs.

Shop the 2018 Winter Collection. And keep an eye out for a DIY kit for a crochet wall hanging in a few weeks. Melody will also be releasing her spring collection in late March!

This next brand will go into both an unboxing as well as a B…

How to Dress Up Like A 1920s Flapper Girl

Movies and pop culture often influence Halloween-costume trends. The flapper girl costume continues to be popular year after year, thanks to the most recent remake of The Great Gatsby (pictured above) and the wildly popular BBC series Downton Abbey.

There are plenty of flapper girl costumes available, as it's a top Halloween trend this year, though I encourage you to create the look from scratch. The flapper trend spilled into mainstream fashion as well, so you can take the opportunity to invest in a new cocktail dress that will last longer and that you'll get more use out of. You can go for a subtle flapper-inspired dress and play up the look for Halloween using accessories. Look for a drop-waist tank dress with embellishments like lace, fringe, or beading like the ones pictured below. With the right accessories, you could also get away with using your little black dress.

Essential Accessories for A Gatsby-Themed Costume

Again, with the accessories I'd skip on the cheap prop set and go for real accessories you can get a lot of use out of. Just keep in mind the essentials:

Then it's up to you if you want to add on items like opera gloves or a cigarette holder. You could craft your own embellished headband by hot gluing a feather to a sequin elastic hairband. Here is a great tutorial on how to make your own flapper girl hairband.

If you specifically want to be Daisy from The Great Gatsby, here are some great accessories inspired by the film:

How to Get Flapper Girl Hair

The flapper girl hairstyles of the 1920s were mostly bob that were shorter in front and longer in the back and were often styled with finger waves. Here's a great tutorial  by Toni Guy on flapper girl hair that shows how to create waves and a faux bob, even if you have long hair. You could always just go with a flapper girl wig.

For achieving the 1920s style makeup, I've already posted an in-depth guide on How to Get the Gatsby-Inspired Makeup of the 1920s.

  1. It shows you I'm not paying any attention to Downton. I didn't know it was set in the 20s.
