The Long Bob - The Hottest Haircut Trend for 2015

The long bob, otherwise known as the lob, is officially the number one haircut for 2015. With many celebrities including Lauren Conrad, Rosey Huntington-Whitely, and Ashley Greene giving their hair the chop; the lob has become the most popular cuts for the new year. If 2015 has you craving a fresh start, including your hairstyle, there are a few important things to consider if you're trying to decide whether the long bob is right for you. Image via

1. First, if you have very long hair but are craving a drastic change, keep in mind that you will feel some remorse. I just gave my super long hair the chop, and I'm missing it already. I'm happy with the cut, but it's totally different. It's more modern and sexy as opposed to the traditional pretty I'm used to. This doesn't mean you won't like your new do, just remember that an adjustment period is totally unavoidable if you're going from very long to shoulder-length hair. Try to avoid looking at Gisele or Blake Lively for a while!!

2. Is a long bob right for your face shape? The long bob is quite versatile in that it can go with just bout any face shape. The shape of your face will more so determine which kind of bob you'll want. The long bob comes in many shapes and sizes, from short in the back and long in the front to layered and shaggy and with or without bangs. Be open to whatever your hair stylist would suggest for you.

3. The texture of your hair also determines whether or not the lob is the right choice in haircuts for you. For example, someone with super-fine straight hair should go with a more even and blunt-cut bob rather than the textured long bob, while someone with thick textured hair need some layers to give the right amount of volume throughout the cut.

4. This cut takes more styling. Whether you end up with a straight angle lob or a wavy layered lob, this haircut takes a little more effort. I typically didn't have to do much styling to my long wavy hair before I cut it. A simple sea salt spray and some mousse, and I was ready to go. Now I'm quickly realizing that I'm going to have to put more time and technique into my hairstyle.

5. The straighter your hair, the more maintenance it will take. If you get a super-straight lob, especially with bangs, be prepared to have to blow dry it anytime you want to wear your hair down. On the upside, that's less hair you have to dry, so it won't take as long as it used to. There is also more maintenance for the long bob when it comes to getting trims. A lob will need a trim every four to six weeks depending on how fast your hair grows.

6. If you have naturally curly hair, aim for the collar bone in front. Don't forget that curly or wavy hair lays more flat the longer it is. Especially if you're going to a new stylist for this cut, make sure to tell them if your hair is naturally wavy. They should be able to tell, but after washing and combing, they may forget. They really need to keep in mind that your hair will bounce up shorter when dry. They'll also be reminded that your hair will probably need layers or at least some thinning throughout in order to lay just right with a bob.

Three Cool Updo's for a Long Bob

The Best Hair Products for Styling a Long Bob you have a straight bob, it's all about keeping it sleek and protected from styling heat. Try this heat protective spray, followed by a keratin serum to smooth ends and keep hair super straight, and finished off with a flexible-hold anti-humidity hair spray. I really love the Tresemme Tres Two Extra Hold Aerosol HairSpray for both straight and curly hairstyles.

To style a wavy textured lob, you really need something thicker, like a mousse or pomade. Start with a texturizing spray. I absolutely love the new Garnier Fructis Deconstructed Beach Chic Texturizing Spray for my thick naturally wavy hair. Follow that with mousse or pomade. I prefer curling mousse, because my hair is so frizzy and hard to control. The Dove Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse offers control with moisture.

Though if your hair is only slightly wavy but lacking in texture for a layered lob, a thick pomade would be best. I do love the Tresemme hairspray I mentioned earlier even for curly styles. I use it all over to smooth down frizz all day. But if you need a little help with volume and getting those textured layers just right, use an additional volumizing or texturizing hairspray. My recent favorite is the Garnier Fructis De-Constructed Texture Tease Hairspray.

  1. Looks good! I went for really short because my hair is thin and baby fine. Long, it looks like a pathetic little mop!

  2. That's the first time I've heard that term!

  3. I love this cut- if I had the cuts, I would totally cut my hair into a lob. :)
