The Top Maxi Dresses for Spring / Summer 2015
I love a great maxi dress. During spring while the weather is still trying to make up its mind, you can layer on a denim or leather jacket. During summer a maxi is the perfect item to throw on and look gorgeous with minimal effort. It's also perfect to pack for a summer getaway. You can dress it down for lunch, wear it over your swimsuit on the beach, and you can dress it up for dinner with statement jewelry. Depending on the style, sometimes you can even wear a maxi dress into fall with booties and a blazer or sweater. Pictured: Free People Baby Baby Dress
Tribal and Geo-Print Maxis are always in. They really appeal to my boho-chic style, and they go so well with gladiator sandals , which are the hottest sandal trend for 2015.

Handkerchief-Hem Trapeze Maxis are perfect for a summer vacation, both on the beach or an afternoon of shopping. Wear the trend as-is, or cinch the waist with a belt.

Sexy Beach Maxis with cut-outs, sheer inserts, slits, and open backs are absolutely perfect for summer. Most should be reserved for the beach and pool-side or an outdoor summer event like a concert or festival, though a typically modest maxi dress with the addition of an open back or side cut-outs alone would be great for a summer date. I love this Wal G Cross Back Maxi. Something to be careful about with this trend is it can be totally ruined by the wrong undergarment. Unless you're simply wearing your swimsuit underneath, this Self Adhesive Silicone Nu Color Backless Strapless Bra offers support and coverage without back straps. If you can't stand the idea of a backless bra, try one of these strappy-back bras that are meant to be seen.

A Popover or Flutter-Top Maxi, also called a flounce or layered maxi, is so feminine and pretty. You can easily transition this trend from spring to summer. It works for the beach, but it's nice enough to wear to a dressy-casual event, like a summer rehearsal dinner. I'm surprised how versatile it is in style. For example, it looks romantic and frilly with simple accessories, but pair it with a fringed bag and some metallic summer jewelry, and suddenly it takes on a very boho-chic vibe.

Similar to the flutter-top maxi, the Off-the-Shoulder Dress is a huge trend for 2015. The trend ranges from casual to dressy-casual as well as formal maxi dresses. I highly recommend it for a date-night dress. It's the perfect combination of pretty and sexy. It's also a great pick for fuller-figured women, because the sleeves and loose-fitting material help balance out a larger bottom half, while the off-the-shoulder design adds a lot of femininity and allows you to show skin without being self conscious.

A Jersey Knit Maxi is always in my summer vacation bag. If you have a busy summer, I could not recommend this dress more. Whether you go with a strapless, kimono-sleeve, tank, or a cami dress; a jersey knit maxi is the most versatile dress you could buy for summer. It can be totally casual as a swimsuit coverup or for shopping, can be dressed up a little for dinner, and can even work for something like a rehearsal dinner if you dress it up with jewelry. Aside from being so versatile, it's an excellent vacation pick, because if you roll it up instead of folding it, it won't get a ton of wrinkles.
Now I know jersey knit can sometimes be hard to wear if you have curves. I find that a caftan-style jersey dress that is gathered at the waist and has kimono sleeves is perfect for flattering most any figure. Some of them are quite low cut as they're intended for beach wear, but all you need is a nice tank underneath.

From eyelet to lace overlay and guazy summer fabrics, Semi-Sheer Maxis are so pretty for summer. It's a nice way to show a little leg without being completely bare. They range from sheer all-over to sheer from the thigh down. All-over sheer maxis are great as swimsuit coverups, but you can still pull them off anywhere by wearing a maxi slip or half slip underneath. I think it's the perfect look for attending a beach wedding.

As you can see, a lot of these summer maxi trends overlap, like the off-the-shoulder flounce maxis and the semi-sheer beach dresses with side slits. My favorite purely because of its versatility and ability to travel well is the jersey-knit maxi, though I would also love to get a beautiful off-the-shoulder dress this summer. Which kind is your favorite?
