Easy Everyday Contouring and Highlighting

Contouring and highlighting has been a huge makeup trend in recent years, and with good reason - you can use concealer to achieve more defined cheek bones, to make your lips look bigger, and my personal favorite - to hide a double chin. And despite all of the intricate tutorials out there, I want to show you that it can actually be quick an easy!

The first trick is to start with the right concealer shades. First, let’s get one thing straight: when I say highlighter, I do not mean the super light and shimmery highlighter that should only be reserved for above the cheekbones. I’ve seen all too many makeup vloggers apply that all over, from the forehead to the tip of the nose, to the cupid’s bow and the chin. Those however, are rather places for a creamy skin-tone concealer.

How to Pick the Right Shade of Concealer

For the highlights, you want a concealer that is one to two shades lighter than your foundation. If you just go one shade lighter, as I have, pick one with a yellow tone, so y…

Blogger Style: A Summer Date

Summer is a fun time to dress for dates and special occasions. For me it's a chance to wear my favorite new sandals and a pretty sundress, like this SUNGLORY Women's Adjustable Strappy Dress. My husband and I love to grab a cup of coffee and enjoy a nice walk in the park. Though I know it can be tricky to dress for a summer date. In all the years I've been doing style guides, one of the things I receive searches and reader questions on the most is how to dress for a summer date. It can be a challenge, between the weather and the fact that summer dates sometimes involve outings that don't consist of the typical dinner and a movie. For a special summer date, you may find yourself at anything from an outdoor "movie on the lawn" at a local gallery, a trip to a local winery, or live music in the park.

Dressing for any event leaves a lot of people stumped mostly because we worry about either being too overdressed or too under-dressed. For a date in particular, it's also important to strike the right balance between sexy and classy, as well as pretty yet comfortable. For a summer date, it's a safe bet to stick with dressy casual, like a sundress and nice flat sandals or wedges. For a casual summer date, denim is totally fine too if you pair it with a nice blouse and accessories.

A Pretty Printed Shift Dress - A printed shift dress, like this ANRABESS Women Floral Print Shift Dress is always a great option for a date. It shows some leg but fits comfortably, so it's a nice balance between sexy and pretty without being too revealing. I love a cute patterned shift dress like the one pictured above; because it goes with heels, dressy flats, sandals, or gladiators. Pictured: MODA INTERSECTION

Off-the-Shoulder -I just had to include an off-the-shoulder look in the mix. It's romantic and pretty, and it's sexy in a way that is much more comfortable and wearable than a body-con dress. Off-the-shoulder and cold shoulder has been such a huge trend this year, you can find the look in both dresses, like this pretty Walant Women Summer Boho Off Shoulder Maxi Dress, and tops like the one pictured above. A flowy cold shoulder top is the perfect way to dress up denim for summer. Pictured: Samieze.com

Go Boho-Chic - I love, love, love a boho-chic blouse for summer. It lends a dressy feel to any look, so if you're wanting to dress up a little but still be casual enough for an outdoor Summer date, go with a boho blouse, like this Roxy Womens Rush Tide Marshmellow Shirt to keep the look pretty yet casual. It's something you could easily dress up with heels and jewelry or dress down with flat sandals. Pictured:  Mila Junge of Sound of Beauty Style Blog

Pair a Casual Top with a Skirt - Pairing separates is one of my favorite ways to dress up without having to run out and buy a new dress. Simply pair a tee or blouse with a skirt. For a dressy look, pair a tank or crop with a nice maxi skirt, and top off the look with a statement necklace. If you need a more casual outfit, go with a denim skirt. As with any look, you can dress this up or down with different accessories and hair and makeup. Pictured: Loving-Evelyn

The Little White Dress - Whether you go with something casual and boho-chic or a nice cocktail dress, a little white dress, like this Romwe Women's Sleeveless Cut Out A-Line Flared Dress is the perfect summer staple for a night out. Pictured: The Girl from Panama

These bloggers definitely got it right when it comes to summer date-night looks. Which look would you go with? Let me know in the comments below!
