KCL Friday Finds

Happy weekend, and welcome to Friday Finds! Today it's all about holiday hostess gifts. It about the time when you may have several seasonal parties and functions to attend, and you should never show up empty-handed. The best hostess gift should be something just for the hostess that he or she can use at a later time, either for entertaining or just for themselves. Just because you may have been assigned a side dish or drinks, you should still being along a special hostess gift.

A hostess gift doesn't need to cost a lot. They can range anywhere from $10-$25, and really should be on average $20. There are so many appropriate options in this price range - anything from a set of tea towels to a cookbook, or something gourmet, or even a little bath and body gift. If you need a hostess gift for a party or dinner this holiday season, you can't go wrong with one of the picks below.

This first one is my favorite, because it's a versatile multi-use item, and it's so chic. …

My Top 3 Essential Sunglasses

To me sunglasses are like shoes and handbags; they're just as essential, and I tend to have two to three great basics that go with everything. My absolute favorite for all seasons is a pair of tortoise shell sunglasses with a slight cat-eye frame. They go with absolutely anything, whether formal or casual, neutral or brightly-colored. A vintage-inspired black cat eye and a pair of over-sized aviators are my other two essential sunglasses.

If you want to invest in a quality pair of sunglasses, I cannot recommend the tortoise shell sunglasses enough. Like I said above, they're perfect for all seasons; I love to wear mine in the summer with my boho-chic outfits, and in the fall and winter, they take on a much more sophisticated look with a suit or a trench. Find a pair that has some black or at least dark brown in the print, so you can pair it with both brown or black and any number of neutrals in between. A pair with classic wayfarer frames or a slight cat eye like the ones pictured above are my favorite.

I purchased a pair of black cat eye sunglasses for a photo shoot a few summers ago, and they have become a staple of mine. Extreme cat eye sunglasses are great if you're really going for that vintage-inspired look. Though I love a pair that is a bit more subtle; they go so well with my black maxi dresses during summer, and they also look so chic with a little black dress during fall and winter.

Over-sized aviators are my new favorites when it comes to sunglasses, particularly a pair with gold-tone frames and brown gradient lenses. Just like the tortoise shell frames, they go so well with both casual or dressy-casual looks.

What kind of shades do you always have in your wardrobe?

  1. I have several, but I only really wear the one. They've got a slight curve to them.
