The Hottest Boot Trends for Fall 2015

It's finally been chilly enough, here in Midwestern America, to wear my favorite fall boots - my black knee-high riding boots. Though I do find myself wishing I had a different pair for every day of the week. I'd get a brown pair of riding boots, a pair of suede over-the-knee boots, and pair of ankle boots, and of course any kind of boot with fringe. Since the first chill has set in, I've received three very important questions from readers regarding boot trends (yes, very important): 1. How do I style my riding boots? 2. Are pointy-toe boots still in style for Fall 2015? 3. What are the top boots trends for Fall 2015?  While a full style guide on riding boots will have to wait for another post, let's get into the other two questions.

First, to answer the question I keep getting the most - pointy-toe boots are still in, but not nearly as much as the mod round-toe boots for fall 2015, and the ones that are "pointed" are still more rounded than the previous few years, take for example the Stuart Weitzman Allegs Leather Boot pictured above.

That brings me to the biggest trend in fall boots. The over-the-knee boot, whether in equestrian style or a more sexy high-heel boot, is definitely one of the top boot trends for fall 2015. Wear them with a dress or over a pair of skinny jeans or leggings. If the Stuart Weitzman boots are a bit out of your price range, try the Steve Madden Women's Gorgeous Winter Boot (pictured above) or the Ivanka Trump Women's Sarena Boot. The over-the-knee trend can be a bit intimidating to wear. Ease into it with a lower heel, and pair black ones with black leggings for a seamless and more subtle look. I really like how Amy Ann Arnold of Straight A Style wore hers in this guide for Three Ways to Wear OTK Boots.

The 70s boho trend that is huge for fall 2015 has definitely carried over into accessories including fringed boots. Both ankle boots and tall boots alike come in so many different fringe designs this season. Pictured Above: Faryl Robin + Free People Songbird Fringe Boot

The 70s revival trend has also given way to the mod boot, with its rounded toe and block heel. The tall mod boots for fall are perfect to pair with an A-line mini skirt or skinnies. The ankle-boot version looks great with cropped pants or leggings. Pictured Above: ASOS COME ON THEN Knee High Boots

Ankle boots are as usual a top shoe trend for fall. From western ankle boots to high heel peep-toe booties, these are the perfect pieces for transitioning from summer sandals to tall winter boots. For fall 2015, the suede western ankle boots are still in, and of course the mod rounded-toe boots I just mentioned. Though this season, edgy ankle boots are also back in. Ankle boots embellished with extra zippers, fringe, studs, and buckles, and with chunky stacked heels, are perfect for a casual fall look. The biggest difference in the trend this year is that ankle boots are more often than not mid-calf....which, I know, makes them technically not ankle boots. Hey, I don't make this stuff up, I just report it. The low-heeled ankle boots this season that actually do hit at the ankle tend to be a Chelsea boot. Another top trend I keep seeing in ankle boots this season are sleek, structured layers, like the ones on the Cynthia Vincent Women's Hue Boot (pictured above). With the rounded-toe and stacked heel, it's in keeping with the mod trend but in a much more classic and versatile way.

Let's not forget the most popular and always-trending fall boot - the classic tall riding boot. I still remember when they cam in style nearly ten years ago, about the same time as skinny jeans. Suddenly girls were wearing their jeans tucked inside their boots. It took some getting used to. Of course now it makes up one of the most basic and trendy fall looks - a cozy sweater or boho blouse and skinny jeans topped off with knee-high boots. As trends often do, the riding boot and over-the-knee trend collide with versions that skim just above the knee, like the Nine West Women's Tiberia Leather Knee-High Boot. Though unlike some other over-the-knee boots, these are in keeping with the sleek leather and structure of a traditional riding boot.
