KCL 2018 Beauty Awards

Welcome to the latest beauty edit and the very first beauty awards here on the blog! I’ve tried so many wonderful beauty products this year and wanted to let you guys know which were my top must-have products of the year. I’ve picked from new and small businesses only, as I love to work with indie brands. And like most of the beauty brands I review; most of these are organic, natural, and cruelty-free.

These are the items that long after the required testing and promotion period, I find myself still using and preferring above any others. The're the products which despite a never ending stream of free PR samples, I would still spend my own money (and in some cases have) in order to get more of. And whether affordable or more costly, these are the beauty products that I truly think are worth the price. So if you’re thinking about adding more beauty or selfcare products into your 2019 routine, I highly recommend each of these brands.

Monthly Beauty Faves

Every month it seems my makeup and beauty routine takes on a different theme, whether it's due to the season or specific events, like date night. But some months, especially after looking back at my Instagram, I notice it's focused around a particular brand. Pictured: Revlon Colorstay Eyeshadow

Recently I've been all about Revlon. I love their lipsticks, which I've already blogged about several times, but I also have a few new favorites with the change of season.

This REVLON Colorstay 16 Hour Eye Shadow Quad in Decadent isn't exactly new; my daughters gave it to me in the spring for Mother's Day, but as fall has hit, I'm loving the rich neutral and red colors. It has a velvety texture and a hint of shimmer for a subtle daytime look. For a night out, I layer on a shadow with a bit more sparkle, just over the lid.

If you follow on instagram, you also know that my nail are always painted...always. While I tend to wear a classic red, I do like darker colors for fall and winter, like this and this. I do have my favorite nail polish brands like Wet n Wild Megalast and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri, as well as Rimmel 60 Seconds polish; but when I saw this rich red Revlon Creme Nail Enamel in Vixen #570, I had to get it. It does wear off at the end after a few days, though it dries very quickly, so it's just as easy to touch up in the morning as my quick-dry polishes. Though I definitely recommend a high-quality top coat over it.

The color is really quite amazing. This coming from a picky person with only mildly failing eyesight and no color blindness (that I'm aware of); I feel like I've finally found the perfect dark red. Once you get to a certain point, darker reds usually look too dark, and you can't see the rich red coming through in the color. But the Revlon in "Vixen" is so dark yet still has a beautiful red color that shows through. It will no doubt get a place on my November Edit.
