Simple, White, and Adorned with Roses

It wouldn't be  Wednesday without a new post on the wedding blog. How are you guys doing this hump day? For most of you this is the hardest part of the week...with days of work under your belt and a few more to go for the weekend, but for me, today is Monday. Or rather it's the first day for me to be working again this week after hurting my neck and back over the weekend. Still hurting, but with lots of bed rest and an amazing fiance who graciously picks up my slack and reminds me when to take more Tylenol, I'm finally on the mend. I've been aching to share a few major wedding-planning posts on the blog; like how I designed and shot the image for our Save the Dates, and an in-depth layout showing our receptions colors and overall look. However, as I said, I'm recovering...on the mend but still taking it somewhat easy this week.

So yes, here is a quick post that will have me back on my heating pad in no time. My fiance and I have yet to pick a cake, though we are pretty fond of Merritt's Bakery. We tasted some of their yummy cakes at a wedding show in Tulsa earlier this year, and we both loved it. We've also settled on the overall look, I think - simple white frosting with roses.

I don't much care for the smooth finish of fondant. I feel it's a bit outdated. After I explained to my manly man the difference between buttercream and fondant, it seemed we were in agreement that buttercream in the way to go, both for aesthetics and taste. That gorgeous glam-vintage cake stand, by the way, is available for purchase here >. I've had my eye on that type of cake stand for a long time and have actually sold quite a few through affiliate links on the blog after I featured it in a few entertaining guides.

Whether we go with pink or red roses, or a combination of the two colors, we're most likely going with simple white and pretty roses. Pictured: cake by La Patisserie Chouquette  /  photo by Mike Cassimatis Photography
