When Your Wedding Dress Needs A Little Boost

I love my wedding dress...I do. I've posted about it quite a few times, so I'm going to assume you regular readers already know what it looks like. For anyone new stopping by, here is a peek at the top of it here >.

I fell in love with the top and love that the bottom is a ball gown type skirt. But as I kept looking at wedding magazines, I found myself wishing the skirt was more full. I could use a big petticoat underneath to help with the fullness, and I probably still will. But I was also wishing the skirt was just a bit more gathered, with more fabric.

I started obsessively searching for tulle over-skirts but couldn't really find what I was envisioning. It also needed to be long enough to cover the train on my existing dress. Then upon searching for both sashes and veils, I came across these dresses with a "detachable train." Okay, now I was onto something. This would totally give me the look I'm after. And while it costs more than a petticoat, the particular one I ordered (pictured above) may eliminate the need for one, and it also comes with a built-in crystal sash, so I can check that off my list as well.

These two-piece wedding dresses with detachable trains also are available with knee-length cocktail dresses, which I was also wanting to order anyway. Every bride needs a pretty white cocktail dress for the bridal shower or rehearsal dinner. I could even use it for my engagement photos...if I can squeeze into it by then, that is.

These additions to any dress should of course be altered to fit your dress seamlessly, so plan on getting anything like this, or a veil or sash, before your first fitting. I've got my first fitting in July and can't wait to see what it all looks like together.

And while I bought it specifically for the long over-skirt, this type of dress in its entirety is the perfect option for the bride who wants to be formal for the ceremony and a little less formal for the reception.

If there's one thing I've learned so far with the wedding planning is that if there is something you aren't 100% happy with, change it! It is your wedding after all. I'm so happy with this change to my wedding dress that I will probably make my fiance wait until the first look on the wedding day to see it. I was so impatient after I found the original gown that I showed him a picture of it. But I asked him to stay off the blog this week so the rest of the look can be a surprise.:)
