Gift Guide for the Dog Lover

I'm so excited to bring you guys today's holiday gift guide. This one is for all of the #dogmoms out there (and #dogdads). My husband and I have a German Shepherd named Emma (who is currently in a time out for pooping inside...again), but just like our other kids, we still love her. We'd also really love it if she'd quit going potty inside, but that is beside the point. The point is there is no shame in spoiling your sweet fur baby, especially during the holidays!! And while some of these gifts are items for your dog, some are great gift ideas for the dog lover in your life too.

The Dogist 2018 Wall Calendar by Elias Weiss Friedman author of The Dogist, for example, is the perfect Christmas gift for someone who loves dogs.

These super cute Christmas Plaid Dog Collars by Mr. Bow Tie Boutique would be the perfect holiday gift for doggies and dog owners alike! Whether you have family holiday photos coming up, or you simply want your furry friend to look festive for those…

Feeling the Big-City Vibes

It's been a bit hectic and exhausting to relocate to another state, but we are getting more and more settled in and have explored a few fun places in the area. Of course moving is expensive, and we've had unexpected expenses piled on, but my husband found some affordable yet amazing things for us to do. We've explored historic downtown McKinney, as well as a very nice shopping center so we could enjoy the Barnes and Noble inside and explore all of the beautiful stores. And last weekend, we went to the Dallas Museum of Art.

If you followed my Tulsa posts, you know that Ken and I both love museums. And while Tulsa has a few nice ones, like Philbrook, they simply aren't comparable to the ones we've seen on the east coast. I mean, I lived near D.C. for eight years. It's tough to beat the Smithsonian museums there, and the Metropolitan museum in NYC.

But as we stepped into the Dallas Museum of Art, we both felt like...okay, we really are back in a big city, and it felt pretty great.

The Dallas museum is a must if you live nearby and love art as much as we do! First, there are a few other fun things nearby, so you can make a day of it.

We started outside with a walk through Klyde Warren Park (pictured above). It has pretty landscaping, sidewalk cafe tables, fountains that kids can play in, and food trucks. We even saw one of those little free outdoor libraries; with magazines, papers, and books. There are a lot of fun events and things to do there; see their current calendar here >.

Directly outside of the museum is a large fountain and a modern sculpture garden. It reminded me of the Hirshorn Gallery in D.C.

Inside the museum were a few special exhibits as well as an extensive collection of permanent exhibits. We really loved the European section. I got to see a Picasso, some Manet, and Monet. I also saw a Pollock and some Rodin. I do love sculptures, and the DMA has a decent amount. You can see a list of their upcoming exhibits here >. I'm very excited for the pumpkin exhibit!

If you have kids who like art, this is a great place to visit for some interactive fun. There is a large center for kids of all ages, where they can create their own art.

And did I mention it's free? We paid $12 for garage parking, but otherwise, general admission is free. Definitely a great place to visit on the weekend.

What is your favorite art museum? And do you have any plans for the weekend? Let me know in the comments below!
