Easy Everyday Contouring and Highlighting

Contouring and highlighting has been a huge makeup trend in recent years, and with good reason - you can use concealer to achieve more defined cheek bones, to make your lips look bigger, and my personal favorite - to hide a double chin. And despite all of the intricate tutorials out there, I want to show you that it can actually be quick an easy!

The first trick is to start with the right concealer shades. First, let’s get one thing straight: when I say highlighter, I do not mean the super light and shimmery highlighter that should only be reserved for above the cheekbones. I’ve seen all too many makeup vloggers apply that all over, from the forehead to the tip of the nose, to the cupid’s bow and the chin. Those however, are rather places for a creamy skin-tone concealer.

How to Pick the Right Shade of Concealer

For the highlights, you want a concealer that is one to two shades lighter than your foundation. If you just go one shade lighter, as I have, pick one with a yellow tone, so y…

CLARINS Beauty Spring 2018

I always look forward to Spring. After winter, I'm ready for some color and some beautiful blooms. When it comes to fashion and makeup, Spring is a fun time for florals and feminine colors. This year I'm particularly into pastel pink and lavender.

CLARINS has a few new makeup items in pink and purple that they're promoting for Spring 2018, and I was happy to give them a try! I've had the pleasure of testing out the new SOS Primer in Lavender, the 4-Color Eyeshadow Palette in "Lovely Rose," and the Instant Light Lip Balm Perfector in Plum.

I've really enjoyed using the CLARINS SOS Primer. My skin can appear quite dull, especially during winter. This primer gave it a nice punch of color. Each SOS Primer by Clarins is meant to address a specific need, so you can mix and match or use just one. For brightening and evening skin tone, the lavender, paired with my usual foundation and concealer, has made a big difference for me. It gives a touch of color that makes my skin look much more healthy, and it really helps to cover up both dark spots and red irritated patches of skin. The effect is so much more correcting, rather than covering up with heavy foundation.

The CLARINS Instant Light Lip Balm Perfector is meant to feel like a balm and shine like a gloss. While I do love the color, and it does deliver on both moisture and shine, I have to say I was unimpressed by its staying power. When I used it on a Saturday afternoon of shopping with my husband, I found myself reapplying it multiple times in just a few hours.

That is fine for a cheap lip balm that only costs a few dollars. But for a CLARINS lip product which costs $26.00, it really should stay on longer. I have to take into consideration how much you would be spending on this, and considering it costs over $20, I really can't recommend it to you guys.

What I would recommend however, was my absolute favorite item in the new Spring collection by CLARINS - the Lovely Rose eyeshadow palette. This palette as a whole is so beautiful, and perfect for spring. The shimmer is subtle (just how I like it), and the color is heavily pigmented. The shades are quite versatile in that I can wear them all together, or I can lightly apply one or two shades for an easy daytime look, or I can use just one of the shades to create a bold, colorful look in seconds. And as you can see, it comes in a beautiful gold-tone case!
