KCL 2018 Beauty Awards

Welcome to the latest beauty edit and the very first beauty awards here on the blog! I’ve tried so many wonderful beauty products this year and wanted to let you guys know which were my top must-have products of the year. I’ve picked from new and small businesses only, as I love to work with indie brands. And like most of the beauty brands I review; most of these are organic, natural, and cruelty-free.

These are the items that long after the required testing and promotion period, I find myself still using and preferring above any others. The're the products which despite a never ending stream of free PR samples, I would still spend my own money (and in some cases have) in order to get more of. And whether affordable or more costly, these are the beauty products that I truly think are worth the price. So if you’re thinking about adding more beauty or selfcare products into your 2019 routine, I highly recommend each of these brands.

KCL Friday Finds

Welcome to Friday Finds! Have you decked the halls yet? Admittedly we put our tree up weeks ago. What can I say? We LOVE the holidays around here. Though I have yet to put up my little Christmas village, and we still need to decorate and hang our wreaths.

When it comes to Christmas decor, we never go too far traditional or too far modern. The reality is we like both, so our decor always falls somewhere in between...basically anything from Target or Pottery Barn fits the bill. Whatever your favorite look is for the holidays, I hope you find some inspiration here today. Enjoy!

This year we went with a 7.5 ft. tree, and there are some really affordable options available in that size, like this Classics Balsam Spruce Artificial Christmas Tree. The affordable trees may not be as full, but it's easy to fill in the gaps with holiday floral picks and ribbon. I like to use a lot of those items before we put on the ornaments anyway, so it's nice to have space for those.

While I've done blue and silver color schemes in the past, the last few years it's been red, red, red! I love how that bright classic red looks with seasonal greenery, and I especially like how it looks with metallics. I do love to purchase a few really nice ornaments here and there, like this Old World Christmas Glass Blown Ornament, and we have some sentimental ones as well, like this DIY Keepsake Christmas ornament I filled with dried rose petals from our wedding. Though I also like to fill in space and reinforce the overall color scheme with a set of affordable and simple shatterproof ball ornaments in varying sizes and finishes.

Something I've seen a lot on Instagram this year are these Christmas tree collars instead of traditional tree skirts, and I think they're so cute! In addition to looking so pretty, they'd be much easier to clean up around, and can give the illusion of more height to a Christmas tree. Though I do really love the look of a cozy faux fur tree skirt as well as this pretty red ruffled Christmas tree skirt.

When it comes to stockings, we need ours out early for St. Nicholas Day. I'm part Hungarian, and when I was a kid, my sister and I would put our boots out in our windows on December 5th, hoping for some fruit and candies the next morning (and hoping Krampuz wouldn't get us). My husband and I have updated it a bit by using stockings instead of boots. This year I'm really loving these cableknit Christmas stockings and would love to get some.

For curling up with a cup of hot cocoa and a cheesy romantic Christmas movie, I love to have some cozy decor during the holidays. Some pretty candles and a cozy throw blanket are a must! Other little touches I like to add include garland and decorative accessories like my Christmas village. You can see all of my top picks on my new Amazon Influencer Page.
